CCIG’s Publics Research Programme (Directed by Prof. John Clarke) and the Creating Publics project (led by Dr. Nick Mahony and Dr. Hilde Stephansen) will be welcoming a group of colleagues from McGill University’s Institute for the Publics Life of Arts and Ideas (IPLAI) who will be visiting the Open University 3-5 June 2013. We will also be joined by Dr. Sujatha Raman and Dr. Judith Tsouvalis of the University of Nottingham’s five year (2012-17) Leverhulme funded ‘Making Science Public‘ project; as well as two other key members of CCIG’S Publics Research Programme, Prof. Clive Barnett and Prof. Janet Newman.
This gathering will serve two purposes:
(i) To develop the ESRC-funded international networking and partnership project ‘making publics across time and space’ (for which we are collaborating with colleagues from McGill and elsewhere who were involved in the 2005-2010 ‘Making Publics’ project);
(ii) To participate in the inaugural workshop of the new ‘publics then, now and beyond’ network, the aim of which is to form an international and interdisciplinary network of scholars working in this area. For this workshop, we have invited a group of 14 early career scholars from UK, Ireland, Denmark and France whose work intersects with the concerns of this new network.
The aim is that this event will be the start of an ongoing initiative. So if you are exploring the mediation and making of publics, the changing character of public institutions and/or new configurations of public issues do get in touch for more info. about this new network.
